3h alla prima painting of the beautiful multitalented musician + singer-songwriter @lily_janae_ from this past summer.
This one felt like exploring another dialect of the same language, inch by inch getting closer to the artistic vision I long to express 🕊️

Lots of dots clicking on this one, trying to be more intentional with each decision, building confidence one brushstroke at a time.

Nothing refreshes my heart like the feeling of adventure. Is it the desire to run from myself, or towards myself? Maybe both. The ocean has a way of making you (and your problems) feel inconsequential. I’ve been working pretty nonstop and feeling burn-out’s cousin—a restlessness, desire for solitude, for spaciousness of mind. I’m so grateful for the freedom to explore and get rained on and sleep in a cold cramped car and eat so many boiled eggs. And for the brief respite in the rain that allowed me to get in some painting. And to be able to share a little bit of the magic with you 🌊
The process of my cast painting at @grandcentralatelier from pencil block-in, transfer with micron pen, raw umber wipeout and final rendering stage.
Sending you all love and blessings for the holidays, solstice and new year 💫✨

I find cast exercises pretty enjoyable, for the most part, despite their reputation. There’s something comforting about the certainty and stillness, getting lost in a meditation on light & form (or at least a meditation on…something 😅)
Not happy with some parts but the ethos at @grandcentralatelier is, after giving it your best shot, to let go and keep moving… 🌊
On a @raymarpanels L84C Artfix Belgian linen panel. Truly a dream surface to paint on.

Landscape painting was a big goal of mine over the summer. This one I worked on & off July through August, with a second plein air session about halfway through. I tried to capture the affection I feel for the drama & rolling hills of the Methow Valley, always hoping to do my subject justice.
So glad I got to finish it before leaving for NYC for another year at @grandcentralatelier!
